Separation of Church and State

The U.S. Constitution provides for a separation of church and state via the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment, and the U.S. Supreme Court consistently recognized that school officials leading prayer is constitutionally impermissible since 1962. However, in the Kennedy v. Bremerton School District case, the Supreme Court overturned its precedent, ignored the factual record and held that a school district could not fire a football coach who consistently disrupted school events by inviting athletes to participate in prayers on the football field.
